Sentinel for dogs is a combination medication which protects against heartworm and also contains flea control and prevention in dogs and puppies. Also eliminates some intestinal worms. Removes the immature form of the heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis); controls the hookworm Ancyclostoma caninum, roundworms (ascarids), and the Trichuris vulpis whipworm. It also works against fleas. Sentinel for dogs contains two active ingredients: Milbemycin oxime, an oral medication used as an intestinal wormer and heartworm preventative, plus Lufenuron, which inhibits flea egg development and prevents fleas from becoming reproducing adults. Milbemycin oxime is thought to interfere with the parasite’s nerve transmission, causing death of the parasite.
